Kenny R. Blackston, O.D.

Originally from Parrish, Alabama, Dr. Blackston made Andalusia his home after his various studies. As an experienced and knowledgeable experts in the field of optometry, his goal is to provide patients with results-driven, quality services which are based in science and effective business practices.

About Our Provider

Dr. Blackston is originally from Parrish, Alabama, where he graduated from Parrish High School. From there, he attended Walker Junior College and received an Associate’s Degree in Science. Dr. Blackston finished his undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB), receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a minor in Chemistry.
He received his Doctorate of Optometry from UAB in 2000. During his training, Dr. Blackston completed an externship with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and an externship in Birmingham, Alabama, with Omega Surgical Eye Center—now renamed Vision America. He also completed an externship in Primary eye care at Perry Eye Care in Sumiton, Alabama.

After completing his training, Dr. Blackston moved to Andalusia and began working for Denney Vision at Andalusia Optical and Denney Vision in Opp. He purchased Andalusia Optical in 2004 and renamed it Blackston Quality Eyecare. Dr. Blackston has now been practicing optometry in Andalusia for over 20 years.

In his spare time, Dr. Blackston enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his three sons and wife.

Stephanie is originally from Parrish, AL, where she also graduated high school. She graduated from University of West Alabama with a B.S. in Biology in 1995. After graduating from college, she married Dr. Kenny Blackston. Dr. Blackston and Stephanie have three sons. Stephanie has been office manager since 2004 when Dr. Blackston obtained ownership of the practice. Stephanie worked as an apprentice learning billing and coding at Seale Harris Clinic in Birmingham, AL. She has also attended several billing and coding courses, as well as seminars from Vision America on the topic of Optometric Billing to remain current on billing and coding procedures.

Stephanie enjoys working on scrapbooks and watching football in her spare time.

A little more about Mrs. Mary Ann Bradley

Mrs. Mary Ann is a native of Andalusia, Alabama. As a graduate of Andalusia High School, she relocated to Detroit, Michigan, studied at the Ross Business School, and was certified in secretarial and office administration. After a few years in Detroit, she returned home. She started her optician journey in 1995 as an apprentice under optician Dorris Watson. Mrs. Mary Ann began her training in edging ophthalmic lenses, adjusting frames, and repairing. Mrs. Watson owned Andalusia Optical, later acquired by Dr. Daniel Denney of Denney Vision in Dothan, Alabama. Mrs. Mary Ann trained much more extensively under the tutelage of Dr. Denney as an optician in such areas as measuring and verifying the accuracy of ophthalmic lenses. Dr. Blackston purchased Andalusia Optical in 2004, changing the name of the business to Blackston Quality Eye Care, and further trained Mrs. Mary Ann in the area of sales of frames and lenses, as well as contact lens fitting and training patients with their usage. In recent years, she’s been extensively trained in aesthetics by sponsorships of various brands of frames.

Amber Lewis

Amber Lewis, originally from Louisiana, moved to Andalusia in 2001. She is married to Chris Lewis, and together they have one son, Justin. With a passion for patient care and a strong background in optometry, Amber brings extensive training and experience to her role at Blackston Quality Eye Care.

As an optometric technician, Amber thrives in a Christian environment where she can assist others, finding great joy and fulfillment in her work. Outside of the office, Amber enjoys gardening, hunting, and traveling, which provide her with a balanced and enriching lifestyle.

Bridget McVay

She’s been with Blackston Quality Eye Care since August, 2023. “I am blessed to be a part of a great team.” She is originally from Washington State and moved to Alabama in 1997. She married the love of her life, Will, in 2018. They have five children, Ethan, Jeremy, Callie Ann, Konner, and Baylee. Her oldest child got married recently and they have now gained a daughter-in-law, Amber, and grandson, Cash. She and her family are members of Southside Baptist Church.

She currently serves as our Insurance and Accounts Manager, with more than 18 years of insurance and billing experience. She’s attended several different classes to obtain continuing education to be able to take the best care of our patients. “I absolutely love coming to work in a Christian environment and meeting our patients.”
